Up until recently I was a die-hard 110% electric RC
man. No amount of discussion would sway me from my opinion that nitro
RC's where noisy, smelly, filthy, temperamental beasts that would only
run when they felt like it.
Yet I could not help but be intrigued by the look of
those 1/8 nitro buggy's, and the fanatical following they seemed to
have. So throwing all caution to the wind, I decided that I just had to
see what all the fuss was about.
A good friend helped me score a HoBao (Ofna) Hyper 7
Pro buggy kit, and thanks to my obsession with over-kill, I went out and
got me an RB Concepts C5 "Buggy" engine for it. Not to shabby for a
first nitro - LOL. As it turned out, none of the tuning and set-up
horror stories I had heard turned out to be true. After the
initial break-in period the engine holds a tune, starts great and runs
like a MANIAC!
The buggy itself is truly a work of RC-engineering
art; one of the best designed "toys" I have ever played with. The
performance is almost mind-boggling, and after I fitted it with
"truggy-sized" wheels it has become my favorite basher!
So flipping from one end of the scale to the other, I
am now having a VERY hard time getting back into electrics...I think the
smoke, noise and POWER of nitro has corrupted me....
I will add a section with more details on the
building and break-in of this buggy soon.
